Slightly Foxed – The Real Reader's Quarterly
‘A quarterly box of delights - always something unexpected to excite the taste buds of the bookish. I know it's planned, but it feels fortuitous and that's quite an art.’

New! The Slightly Foxed Mug
What you drink your tea or coffee from seems to us as important as the drink itself, and searching round the shops we simply couldn’t find a mug that answered all our requirements – stylish and individual to look at, easy to hold, pleasant to drink from, of good quality and reasonably priced. So we decided to produce one ourselves.
After some research, we found the ideal people to make it for us – Hartley Greens & Co. – a small firm with a distinguished history which, under its original name of The Leeds Pottery, has been producing its distinctive Creamware since 1756. Our mug is in this traditional Creamware – a type of earthenware made from white Cornish clay combined with a translucent glaze to produce a delicious pale cream colour. It carries an appropriately bookish quotation, in lettering by the calligrapher Susie Leiper, and our endpiece of the little fox in SF ’s signature dark grey, and measures 9 x 9 cm.
Applying the transfer to the finished mug is deft work, and, like those at our wonderful printer Smith Settle, the workers at Hartley Greens are highly skilled. Each transfer is applied by hand and by eye, so no two mugs are precisely the same. We love our mug and it’s certainly given tone to our office coffee-breaks. We hope you’ll love it too. If you do, we’ll add more to the series.
